[학문의 즐거움] by 히로나카 헤이스케 (방승양), 김영사, 2001.



히로나카 헤이스케는 평범하면서도 비범한 사람이다. 아무리 명문대학이라 할찌라도 보통 사람들이 공부하는 곳이다. 그러나 설령 그렇다고 해도 명문대에 아무나 입학하는 것은 아닌까 명문대생들은 특별한 사람이기도 하다. 히로나카 헤이스케는 명문대학인 하버드에서 공부를 했고, 아무도 해결하지 못한 특이점 해소라는 큰 업적도 이루었으므로 그는 분명히 평범하면서도 비범한 인물임에 틀립없다.



나는 [학문의 즐거움]을 읽고 히로나카 헤이스케를 좋아하게 되었다. 그가 똑똑한 사람이라서 좋아하는 것은 아니다. 그의 겸손 때문이다. 똑똑한 사람들 중에 간혹 겸손하지 못한 이들이 있기도 한다. 여러가지 예가 있을 수 있지만, 유독 성적을 비관해 자살한 청소년들이 생각 난다. 죽은 그들은 똑똑하기는 했으나 겸손하지 않아서 죽었다고 나는 생각한다. 들 똑똑하거나 공부를 안하는 학생들이 죽었다는 뉴스를 을어 본적이 없기 때문이다. 지금 이순간에도 성적 때문에 괴로워하는 학생들이 있다면, 나는 그들에게 히로나카 헤이스케의 스트레스 해소방법을 소개해 주고 싶다. 그는 공부가 잘 안 될때 "나는 바보니까!"라고 스스로 말하므로 스트레스를 받지 않고 꾸준히 노력하여 위대한 업적을 이루었다고 한다.



히로나카 헤이스케는 공부의 목적을 사고력 개발과 지혜 습득이라고 말한다. 이 두가지는 학창시절에만 국한 되는 것이 아니라 인생 전반에 걸쳐 개발되고 습득되는 것이기에 진정한 학문의 즐거움은 인생의 즐거움으로 연장 될 수도 있을 법하다.



히로나카 헤이스케 is an ordinary man and at the same time he is also extraordinary. Even at a prestigious university, students are ordinary people. Even so, not everyone can study with them. Thus, those students who study at any prestigious university are extraordinary for sure. 히로나카 헤이스케 has studied at Harvard and he has solved 특이점해소.He is extraordinary and ordinary.




I came to like 히로나카 헤이스케, after having read of [학문의 즐거움], not because he is smart but because he is humble. Some of smarties are found not to be humble. There are many examples. I would like to take suicide rate in high schools as an example. I don't think the stress of studies kills them. They are dead because they are not humble. They thought they were genius, so they could not accept a little bit of unsatisfaction. How proud they are. They forgot that they are just ordinary teenagers.I have never heard of a student who does not study hard kill himself or herself. I would like to introduce 히로나카 헤이스케's stress management to those who are struggling with their studies right now. 히로나카 헤이스케 said to himself, "That's okay. For I am a stupid, therefore I've done well so far. Now what I do is just keep doing it without giving up". And then he actually achieved a great thing.



히로나카 헤이스케 says, the purpose of study is gaining thinking skills and wisdom. I think these two can't be accomplished only from schools. Rather we get them throughout life, therefore the true pleasure of studying can be expended to the pleasure of life, I think.
